I don't recommend two HD3850, because according to this review a single GTS 512MB is faster in most cases

thats still a good choice. you can actually pick one up for $220-$230. they're realitively cheap. check microcenter

well my current set-up is not so good, the cpu has been playing up for about 3 months the mobo has had a floppy drive error every time i load for the last 6 months (it dosent even have a floppy)

and to top it all the graphics card blew last night so its just on borrowed time to be honest so even a low end cheep build would be better.

current specs

mobo - asus A7N8X-X running with floppy drive error
cpu - amd sempron 2.2GHz running at constant 1.1 - 1.2 (locked on that dont know why)
gpu - ati radeon 9600 not even working it blew
ram - 1 512mb strip
hdd - a cheep 160GB ide one

everything is on verge or has gone caput
