Q6600 vs Q6700

For now, the E8400 is better. But in the future, when applications and games start to take advantage of more than two cores, the Q6600 is better. So you should get the Q6600, if you're not looking to upgrade for a while. If you upgrade like every year, the E8400 is the way to go.

An E8400 at 4GHz would probably be faster in games than a Q6600 at 3.7, but 300MHz isn't really that big of a difference. Plus, the Q6600 has an extra two cores, to handle other things.

In the future please dont refer to a processor as "Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz" in bold font.

Simply stating e8400 or q6600 is sufficient.

i will put in my 2 cents...

depending on your motherboard... say you get a 680i, or a mobo that doesnt have high fsb voltage options, the q6700 will be your better options, cuz then you don't have to use as much fsb voltage to get where you want

so if ur motherboard voltage is your limiting factor, go for the q6700

Thanks.. I just wanted to know how much better the Q6700 is.. also.. do you thnik that the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
is the one I should buy vs the Q6600? if the Q6600 can get a stable 3.7GHz and the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz can get a stable 4GHz would the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor be alot better and faster OR.. if because the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz is a dual core processor it will be overall worse than the Q6600

You can get the Q6700 new OEM on Ebay for $325 to $350. I bought one and it is fantastic. Without any voltage increases I run mine consistantly at 3.15 ghz and it never gets obver 35 degrees under load!

At this point there is still hardly a logical reason to get a quad core.

Consider the fact that they have been commercially available for more than a year and still software doesn't ship with native support.

The best bang for buck you can probably get is an e8400 and clock it to ****. When support for quads does finally catch up with their proliferation then sell the e8400 for near what you paid for it. and throw in a little extra change for the latest low end quad. Consider the e6300, its been out for nearly a year and a half and they still sell for near 100 used when they retailed for 150.

It is over 500$ other places..I have also heard that the Q6700 will go down to 250$ in April...

I have been thinking of waiting until Late April to get my CPU rather than buy it now.

AND.. Is the quad core processor really a whole heck of alot better? like having 2 dual core processors?
