save ur cash for a 9 series

again...you really have to analyze what kind of advice your recommending to him. 9 series is at least 6 months away ( doubt it will come november since they are always late ), and when it DOES come out, it will be very premium priced much like any new product that comes out ( 900 dollar geforce 8800 ultra anyone? ). Which means he will have to wait longer to get a 9 series card for a decent price...his best decision is to go for the 8800 GTX now, or wait for the 9 series to come out and get a 8800 GTX when it drops in price ( and till then he can RMA that weak geforce 6 series card ).

phanto is completely ok with waiting... but another recommendation is to get a evga card keep RMA'ing it because the step-up stuff renews and stall for a 9 series til then :)

step up is only for 90 days duration I believe which means he would be long over due, also this sums it up nicely for the whole "waiting for penryn game":

"It's tough to resist upgrading or building a new system today because of the tremendous value this last round of price cuts has given us, especially when you take into account that both Penryn and Phenom's respective launches remain largely unknown. Clock speeds, pricing and dates are still up in the air, and for once our recommendation isn't simply to wait and see what happens.

If you need a new system or CPU upgrade today, the chips are ripe for the picking"
