Hi guys,

I'm looking for a new computer, i have to choose between these 2 processors:

Pentium 4 @ 3.0GHz
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+

I'm wondering if dual core is better but i have no clue, can u guys help?

P.S I'm a hardcore gamer and i'm gonna be pushing this PC to its limits

neither of those are dual-core.. the Athlon64's are single core... but the Athlon is better.. and will probably overclock better than those stupid Netburst Pentium 4's

Im surprised that a hardcore gamer doesnt know that a dual core CPU is the minimum standard today.

Definately go for a Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 or E6750.

well if your aren't putting this together with your own hands then i would buy it from IBUYPOWER.COM or CYBERPOWER.COM...

I think when you say 5200 you mean x2.... I don't recall them ever making a single core 5200..

If it is a x2 5200, that would definitely be the decision

You see, the problem i have with dual core is that it runs at a lower speed (2.2 GHZ) than the pentium 4 (3.0 GHz) and im not into overclocking much

The other processors are much more effiicent, meaning they do MUCH more work per clock cycle....

in other words...2.2ghz is much faster than 3.0ghz....not to mention there are 2 processors instead of 1.

What is your budget? Is this a new build?
