Finally the budget is coming together and the approx. date of order for a new system is sometime in Feb.

The system is mainly for Photoshop/Painter with lots of DVD watching, browsing and some gaming (not bothered about Crysis' high settings, although it'd nice to play smoothly TF2, Assassin's Creed (yea, I know :/) and COD4)

The budget is tight - aboslute max of $1400 (J700) incl. the monitor.

So, the Q:

1. CPU. Should I buy E2180 and overlock (not in the same day, but eventually) or Q6600 which is $200 more expensive? Or wait 'til the E8400 will come to UK (I'd love to have it). And how they'll sit on ASUS P5-N SLI 650i?

2. GPU. I can probably afford 8800GT if I'll go for E2180. But then, if it'll bottleneck it, is there a point at all? I'd love to have E8400 or Q6600, but then it's uncertain which Gpu to get. Even ATI's 38xx is out of budget then (512mb versions). How long is it for 9600GT to come and is it going to be cheap?

I know, it's kinda difficult to work out, so that's why I really need help.

OK, so what do you think?

q6600
good cooler
either 8800GT or 3870
p35-ds3l
2gb of decent memory
20" monitor
corsair 450VX

All of that should still come in under 1400 bucks.

9600GT will come out on late February

If you want to build now then the E2180 + 8800GT would be the best choice for you

Not in England it wouldn't. I know, they think we're all loaded here :(. Even students. The CM690 case I like is $100 to start with. Q6600 G0 is $336. The 8800GT is $325. So, you see that's why it's either good CPU crappy GPU, or the other way around.

Lol, yeah  .

How is it going to be priced? Cheaper then 8800GT?

Will the E2180 be enough for COD4 Or Assassin's C. for that matter and won't it bottleneck the 8800GT?

I think it will priced at $169 (US dollar) when it comes out

Assassin's Creed is not out yet. So, I don't know anything about it

COD4 should run on highest settings with 8800GT

Assassin's creed actually has higher requirements than crysis does. I ran cod4 at maxxed settings with a single GT @ 1920x1200 and kept a minimum of around 40fps and average of about 50.

If you live in the UK, dont do a direct conversion and put the prices in dollars... It dosent work that way... Just overclock the 2180 to 3GHz straight out of the box, and it will perform very well.
