Default power consumption

hey im currently building my system and i am a bit confussed about power supplies. going on power supply calculators i will need 1000w for my system but on other threads people with similar systems have 600w

my system will be

gigabyte ga p35c ds3r

q6600 probably over clocked

corsair xms2 2gb 4-4-4-12

2x500gb sata hdd

1x 150gb raptor

320mb 8800gts of some sort

xfi elite pro sound card

and various usb periferals including external hdds

No way would you need a 1000w psu for that rig, 600-700w would be more than enough, providing its a good brand psu

550 to 700 as jonny said, those calculators are pointless, for my athlon 3800+ system it recommended 600W,

I bet the actual power drain from the system will be between 350-450 watts. Go for something like a Corsair hx520w

ok so the calculator fibbing what would be some recomendations of good psus im quite liking the hiper type r 550w i dont want to spend a bomb as i am on the other componants
