I want to try and get it as close to $1000 as possible. It's not a gaming pc at all, just a business workstation for engineering design apps like Autocad. Processor speed, lots of RAM, and a big LCD with a bright, crisp picture is a must.

Wow I don't know where to being...

I guess i'll start with an X2 is inferior to a C2D these days. An E6300 is all you would need and will save you 60 bucks. Or get an X2 3800 as in terms of dual cores these days you wont notice much of a difference. This way you wont have to get a whole new motherboard.

Then another thing is your screen. Get a Hanns-G 19 inch. They are only 180 bucks and amazing screens. That saves you 90 bucks.

Thats about the best I can do..

Great suggestions Sora.

yeah great suggestions sora, glad to see someone not recommending outrageous parts when someone doesnt need it.

for your storage/backup/print

use the 2x 320 gig drives you dont need a separate physical hard drive for your os, specially that big of one its a waste. after you put the 320's in raid 1 partition off a 20 gig or 30 gig partition for the OS and that way its backed up with the mirror raid as well. thats what makes the most sense to me. everything else looks good.
