Default please tell me what u think of this build.

hey guys am thinking about putting together this computer. i've been out of the game for a yr or two but this is what i came up with:

cpu: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775
w/ Rosewill RCX-Z775-EX 92mm 2 Ball PWM CPU Cooler
-or-
ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink

mobo: Intel BOXD975XBX2KR LGA 775 Intel 975X

ram: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

hd: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320gb 72k rpm 16mg cache

vid: EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3

sound: bluegears b-Enspirer 7.1 Channels

psu: OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply

monitor: SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD

rom: LITE-ON 20X DVDĪR DVD Burner with 12X DVD-RAM
LITE-ON 20X DVDĪR DVD Burner with 12X DVD-RAM

thats pretty much it. i have some questions tho. should i stick to the 72k rpm hd or move up to the 10k rpm? can i still use the mobo i picked out or need to swap it out? whats the best way of cooling the GeForce 8800GTX? i hear runs **** hot. and should stay with xp pro or move up to vista 32 or 64bit?
please let me no what u think of this build and if there is anything that i should change and/or forgot. thanks for the advice.

You're bound to get vista in the future. don't waste money or effort getting or "finding" xp.

Revision:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz (From ClubIT.com)
Motherboard - Gigabyte P35-DS3R or ASUS P5K Deluxe
RAM - 2 x 1GB Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2-800
Hard Drive - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
Graphic Card - EVGA 8800GTX 768MB
Power Supply - PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W (From zipzoomfly.com)
Monitor - Samsung 22" 226BW
Optical Drive - Sony NEC Optiarc DVD Burner
Aftermarket HSF - Tuniq 120 (From svc.com)

You do not need a 10k rpm hard drive. The Seagate 7200.10 models, are pretty fast. And if you want something that is almost as fast as a 10k rpm hard drive with a much bigger capacity, I'd suggest the Western Digital Caviar SE16 750GB, if you can afford it into the budget.

I think the 8800GTX's stock cooler, does pretty well when not overclocked, or not much. But if you're thinking of heavy overclocking, I'd suggest the Thermalright HR-03 Plus.

If you're looking into playing the latest games, especially DX10 gaming, you should go Vista. 64-bit is not needed, seeing as you're only getting 2GB of RAM. Or is that 4GB, you're getting?

Well you always want the option of future expandability. And if you trust ebay may i recommend getting retail ultimate 32/64 bit on ebay decently cheap.

MSI 8800GTX is cheaper and it has higher speeds than eVGA 8800GTX

Newegg.com - MSI NX8800GTX-T2D768E-HD OC GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

I usually stay with EVGA for Nvidia cards, but an GTX is a GTX. Nice find.

bi1gapl, may I ask why you don't ever recommend 64bit vista? Is it for the same reasons they had for the xp versions?

64-bit isn't necessary. If they're considering 64-bit, I'd suggest they find all their software's 64-bit drivers, before they think about buying.
