Well thanks for all the feedback so far guys. One thing I've read somewhere since I posted about the AMD Bulldozer platform is that they recommend you get a 900 series chipset instead of an older 800 series chipset. I guess if you have an AMD FX Bulldozer, an AMD Radeon 6000 series video card, and a 900 series chipset your system becomes an AMD Scorpius platform. Is this just a marketing gimick, or are there actual benefits to paying the extra money for a 900 series chipset and rounding the system up to a Scoripius platform?

Thanks
That board does support the bulldozer, and without a bios update! which will make things easy. And your correct, its just a gimmick, probably so unseasoned techies will think popping in the BD chip unlocks out of this world performance.

Just an update, I am thinking of adding a second video card so that I can run a third eve client on a third monitor with low-mid settings.

Would it work Ok if I added a 6450 in addition to the 6870? I don't want to crossfire, I just want extra video outputs that won't put more load on the 6870. From what I can tell they use the same driver installer from AMD, so I don't think there would be the conflict of trying to install two different video card drivers.

Also, would I need to upgrade the motherboard from a 970 chipset to a motherboard with a 990 chipset to better handle multiple GPUs?

-Thanks

yes, you can run pretty much any 2 cards together if you don't xfire. AMD and Nvidia both basicaly run the same driver packAGE for all their cards.

I dont know much about the amd chipsets, so i dont know.

Just wanted to let you know I decided to take the plunge and make the purchase. Amazon lowered their prices on the Bulldozer CPUs, so I went ahead and got the FX 8150 instead of the FX 8120 (was only $20 more than I was originally going to pay for the 8120). I also bought a Radeon 6450 to go with the 6870 for more video out :)

I'll be sure to post pics when I get the parts in and get it built. I'm excited to try overclocking this with the H60 cooler. Thanks for all the advice guys... I forgot how helpful the TF community is!
