Please Help..Need Suggestions on parts for first time build!

Hello,
I have been away from the gaming world for awhile now..but I have had the urge to get back into it and now with BF3 coming out, i really want to get back into PC gaming, but i have no clue on what all the latest stuff is that is out and what i should get..i have done some research but still have no clue what to do..so if you guys could help me put together a good machine i would really really appreciate it..My budget is about 1,500..I can go over alittle bit but would prefer to keep it in that price range and I already have a monitor.

Yeah, wish I had the tools and know-how, want to mod one real bad.
Window where current fan grills are and make fan mounts to the front slope, if its angled enough to point them at critical components.
