$1,000 limit . . . primarily a gaming PC, would like to overclock

do not need optical drive, screen, or HDD . . .

want a quad core CPU, also would like to utilize dual monitors (play game on one, surf on other), also would like to have multiple HDDs

please help me out. . . have further questions also . . .

I'm not sure I agree with the 4890 suggestion. For the cost difference, it really is only like 10-15% (6-9 FPS) better than the 4870 in most games and isn't worth it. I'd save some money and get the HD 4870 1GB instead.

Plus one less rebate to mess with.

Also, if you plan on getting a second video card later, I'd go with atleast a 650W PSU or 750W.

I think the 4890 is a good choice. In some cases it competes or beats the GTX 285 in certain games. Plus it overclocks very well and runs cooler compared to the old 4870 1Gb.

And in those same games the 4870 is only a few frames behind. The 4890 is merely an overclocked and slightly modified 4870. I don't feel a $60 increase justifies the 6-9FPS.

Yeah, the only way that that little bit of fps would be worth would be if it was in Crysis, and I'm sure the difference isn't that big for that game.
 
Actually I think Crysis was one of the games where the difference in FPS was ~10FPS, but that's at ridiculous resolutions, so just turn the res down for that one game :D
