I've heard that the money difference between the i5 750 and the i7 860 doesn't pay the performance difference and they both use the socket 1156. Can someone confirm this?

They are identical but one supports hyperthreading. In gaming and such this really doesn't give any increase but if you are doing heavy encoding and rendering it can provide a significant performance increase.
