Default pcie 1x

Why is there always a few pcie x1 slots on a motherboard? i have never seen a card or something that fits into them. Why not just have more pci ports instead of having 3pciex1 on a board and only 2 pci's?

Theres a bunch on newegg, you just never went looking for them.

Newegg.com - PCI to Serial Port Card, PCI to USB Card, Firewire PCI Card, PCI to 1394

All those that say pci express to ******** are 1x interface.

so they make everything for the 1x if you needed them
sound card, tv tuner card, even vid cards...etc

ya, most Asus high-end boards like the p5n32-e SLI also use that, because theres no onboard sound, they give you those cards, and tell you to plug it in
