PCI-e 8 pin plug into a 6 pin PCI-e?

The Graphics card I want to buy has x2 PCI-E 6 pin plugins, but my PSU only has x1 6 pin and x1 8 pin.

If the prongs line up and there's room on the side, can I plug in my 8 pin PCI-E plug into the 6 pin plugin without damaging anything?

you should be able to just plug in the 8 pin in to the 6 pin but im not totally sure on that.

no, the 8 pin cannot physically fit into the 6 pin connection.

edit: nvm i was reading it wrong, that adapter would work.
