P35 DS3R and fan

i got the p35 ds3r mother board and the ZALMAN CNPS9500 (fan), is the fan suppose to be right above the cpu? i mean the bottom of the fan toches with the cpu, ive tryed to find ways of playing it on the board without it touching the cpu, is this how its suppose to go? or am i doing something wrong?

there will be bascially a layer of thermal paste inbetween the copper base of the 9500 and ur cpu. google search for help/tutorials if u want visual

Like baron5 said, there is suppose to be thermal paste in the middle, for the heatsink to make contact with the CPU. And the thermal paste to get is AS5, or MX-1 if you know where to find it.
