Opty 165 vs. 7900GT

7900gt all the way. No current games and most programs are not designed with the dual core processor in mind anyway. My dual core Prescott 800fsb 3.6 gets smoked by my AMD Venice core 3500+ at stock speeds!!!! Get the card...it will make you smile when you run your games. My BFG 7900GT runs OC'd at 550/1600 with 24 pixel pipes with an incease of only 2 degrees celcius under full load in Doom 3!!!! Resting = 53 loaded = 55=+/-.

I would go for the the Opteron, as you already have a 6800GS, that will last you fine until when you get enough money for a new card. If you get a new card now, it will not be DX10 compatible, so none of the Far cry goodness. If you don't think you can afford a new GPU in the summer/autumn then save your money.

probably. i also think you should take a gamble because i don't think it's gambling any more. i think the opterons have reached the point where they all bin to the same speed
