lol i wish my 3800+ had 2x512mb L@ :P that would be pretty cool. basically if you have the slightest chance in overclocking i would say get the 165. if not go with the 4400+ toledo

hehe, I didn't notice that...
how well would it perform with 2 x 512MB?
would you even need RAM?

Opteron 165 is definitely the best choice. More cache, can OC it to at least 2.2Ghz, and is much more stable. isnt it?

I can Almost guarantee you an opteron 165 will hit at least 2.6GHZ. Opteron FTW!!

What?????????????? You haven't seen an opteron 165 hit 2.2 ghz? Most hit 2.8.
Ehh, read my sentence again dude. I said "I have yet to see one, NOT hit 2.2Ghz atleast"

the Opteron 165 runs at 1.8GHZ but has 2 x 1MB L2 cache
the X2 3800+ runs at 2.0GHZ but has 2 x 512MB L2 cache

some programs run better with more cache, some run better with higher core speeds. overall, the 3800+ and 165 are about as fast as each other.

though for overclocking, it is better to get the Opteron, because they have more cache.
Yea, but you can easily OC even on dud Opterons to make up for that 200mhz loss. I'd take more cache over clock cycles anyday (Look at Conroe!)

yeah, but I'm just going for the bare minimum to equate against a 4400+ since that's what he was talking about and what Trotter said he'd buy.
