yeah, im going with the opteron 165
only 8 bones more then 3800 x2 and with a L2 2mb
probly wont Oc mine much just to 2.2

It seems like Opterons are much more robust all around. The high-end Athlon X2s are very good though too.

in gaaras link he said that only certain mobos are officialy supported with opteron. any specific mobo i should want/avoid?

All mobos are supported, but it voids your warrenty if you use a motherboard not certified for use with an opteron. But, if you overclock, you void your warranty as well.

it's a server processor, so I imagine any board that isn't intended for desktop use would void the opteron's warrenty.

i acn t find anything on the amd site..any idea how can figure if my mobo voided the warrenty of my cpu

Jeez man, if the motherboard doesn't say that it supports Opterons (not just Socket 939, but actual Opterons) then it doesn't and it voided your warranty.
