Opteron 144 vs Venice 3000+

Ncix has the Opteron 144 in stock I was wondering if it was worth an upgrade.

Upgrade? No. But if you're either buying one or the other, then yes, the 144 would be a better deal.

Sounds like you have a 3000+ already though. Are you planning on selling it? How well does it overclock?

Everyone is talking about these opterons now. Are they 64 bit? Why does everyone desperately want one? Are they socket 939?

Yes, 64-bit. Yes, Socket 939. Basically they're like Athlon 64s but with 1MB L2 cache all round and they overclock really well, often getting 3GHz on air.

They've been discontinued. I have no idea if they still overclock as well as the once did. One excellent overclock a day over at XS isn't really an indication of the mass overclockability.
