e2200 is 5 $ cheaper then the e5200. And get this card you will love it. Newegg.com - ASUS EAH4850/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Or go to bestbuy and get this and forget the rebate. VisionTek - ATI RADEON HD4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card - 900241

If he gets a bigger monitor down the line. It will be like a safety net, instead of going with a crap GPU for the time being.

8800gs would do you good for 100, they o/c very well and at full overclocks can be as good as a 8800gt.

no, they can't, mine is fully overclocked. the 8800gs cannot be as good. It lacks the memory...

whats your clocks. at about 750/1800/1050 its pretty close. note we are talking about a 17" monitor here, the memory difference is as noticable, sure at about 1680x1050 it starts to show its lesser bandwidth but lower than that it seems to do very well compared to the 8800gt.

Fudzilla - XFX overclocked 8800 GS from 550 to 680MHz

thats the xxx edition that runs at 680/1700/800. still far from my overclock. stock memory makes the bandwidth show even more.
