Nvidia Shows GeForce GTX 480 ''Hair'' Rendering

"When new GPUs are in development, it's not uncommon for there to be a myriad of tech demos that show all the new realism features afforded by the new technology.

One such steady improvement seen by increasingly powerful graphics hardware is more realistic hair. No longer is hair just a few triangles stuck together, giving 3D characters a look that can only be achieved in real life with an entire can of hairspray."

Soon as technology expands...you may not know what's real from what's not. Check the vid below which shows the demo of the GTX 480 in action rendering hair...it's like real :stare:. Who knows, just now you may find yourself in a world like Avatar :p.

Lmao exactly...but he's got a pr0 hairstyle, so he should keep it :p. Wonder what games are gonna come out with this 'realistic' feature :umm:.

Edit: Wonder where they come up with those hairstyles anyhow :umm:...

Better than the hair is the ability to dynamically scale objects that need rendering thus improving the frame rates when it's farther away. I would think that would drastically improve performance in games like Crysis.

The comments in that article are hysterical....

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING! TIME TO MORTGAGE THE HOUSE AND GET ONE!!!!

LOOOLLL

Very nice - seems kinda slow-motion, as most CG physics is (like how something will bounce a hundred times before settling, in smaller and smaller increments, whereas in real life it just bounces a couple times and is then completely still).
