The amount of VRAM, doesn't have a large impact on the resolutions you play games at. Like the example of the 8800GTS 640MB, not giving a significant advantage over the 320MB.

Well maybe on really high resolutions, the extra VRAM will help. But I wouldn't say significantly.

i just got hired at Coldstone today after looking for a job since last year, A WHOLE YEAR!! I start training next week.

as for the 8700 GTS, sounds interesting n i truely thought that the 9 series would come out November, my friend is gonna be kind a ****ed :P. It's better then the 8600, the biggest plus about the 8700 GTS is it being PCI-E 2.0, which is exactly what im waiting for.

i am also waiting for the Phenoms to come out along with the RD790 n RD780 chipsets too, i have everything else picked out n right now costs me $1300 - without the CPU n mobo.

Is this going to be compatible with regular PCI-E?

I wont do anything untill it comes out.

like what resolution would u suggest the 8800 GTS 640mb to run on the best in gaming? 1680x1050? 1440x900? I want probably the R670 or wait longer for the R700, i need the PCI-E 2.0 to satisfy my tastes :P.

I meant really high resolutions, such as 1920 x 1200. 1680 x 1050, isn't that high of a resolution.

i understand that, but i was just asking in ur opinion what resolution would best suit for the 320mb or 640mb for gaming?

im planning on getting this monitor when i get the money now that i have a job:

Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 216BW Black-Silver 21" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 3000:1(1000:1) - Retail

Excellent monitor choice. The 640mb isn't needed for 1680 x 1050. The 320mb suites that resolution, very well.

ooo 256-bit bus, most likely will be the mid range product great performance matching the 7900's.
I think 8700GTS is going to be much better than any 7 series. It will be almost as good as 88000GTS

The article says that 8700GTS is going to have either 1800Mhz or 2000MHz (effective memory speed). If 8700GTS had 2000MHz then it will have same memory bandwidth as 8800GTS

2Ghz x 256Bit = 512Gb/s = 64GB/s

1.6GHz x 320Bit = 512Gb/s = 64GB/s

Clock speed of 8700GTS is still unknown thought.

But I think that 8700GTS is going to be a good overclocker because of the 65nm die shrink. 8700GTS is going to have new features like HDMI, PureVideo Gen 3 and PCI Express 2.0
