the gts is currently 280-335 without rebates at the moment.

I doubt it will go below $250-60 mark.

It isnt really... Sometimes it can beat it in certain benchmarks, most of the time it is 10-15 FPS behind. I would call that touching.

I think 8800GTS beats X1950XT, even X1950XTX in almost all cases. In newer games the gap between 8800GTS and X1950XT is increasing

The performance of 8800GTS have improved a lot with newer drivers. It performs much better than when it first came out

I would call that touching.

5 maximum for me, although to be more accurate it should be 1 or less. The 7950GX2 is the only card that can really outdo the 8800GTS in certain cases.
