Nvidia 8400gs

i found it for 60 pounds at my local pc shop what is it the same as compared to a 7 series
and is it good enough for light gaming and school work?

That is a super weak card for gaming. But I guess it's better than integrated. I don't think it's that good for light gaming either. The equivalent would probably be a 7300GS.

well the budget dx10 cards won't even play DX 10 games well.. i don't know why Nvidia even released them.. but most of us were looking forward to the 8600 ultra... but they canceled the release

but the low end 8 series are great for media center PC and HTPC's

Nvidia released the lower end 8 series, for those who do not game, in my opinion. And they have better encoding and decoding video abilities, than the higher end. So it's great if you constantly code videos, and media.
