Default Notebook.. which one would you recoment?

I thinking to get a laptop... maybe around 1000$..... or less..

I was looking at some Compaq laptops.. But what other things would you recommend.

What will I use it for..

Internet.. Skype (well.. Yahoo and MSN messenger probably as well)
Web-Design... possibly.. Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop.. etc..

Not sure about gaming.. probably not.. Well.. Maybe some light MMO, or some like that.

Office.. and such...

AND... Possibly will install Linux, Kubuntu or Ubuntu on it.

Dell. E1505, or E1705. Check out their website to customize them.

Dells aren't too great imo unless you buy the really spendy ones. If fix too many of them to recommend people buy them unless they're really hurting for the cash.

I'd recommend you get one of those compaqs you were looking at. Just make sure you get a dual core processor, at least 1gb of ram (get 1x1gb so the second slot is free for fture upgrades), a ati/nvidia gfx card (not crappy intel stuff), and a decent sized hd.
