its not exactly built for dual 8800gt's, q6600's heavily overclocked and 2gb of Ballistix.. but its still decent for medium end builds..

Where is that guide posted? It doesn't recommend Dynapower and I would like to know why. I've had mine for 1.5 years and it works good.

lol it also says to avoid coolmax at all costs...its more of a general usage guide, anyway....
my coolmax 550 has been running my (sometimes massively)overclocked components for over a year. including SLI 7900gs' that i oc'd the crap out of.
the efficiency could be a little better, to be sure. but, it is a stable PSU.
in any event, i think the amps are a little low for my near-future plans , hence:
psu opinions

yeah i dont recommend them to people who are going to be pushing the limits of their gear like me. it may be limiting some of my clocks, it may not...but i would give them 5 stars as a good, budget PSU, definitely.

Just because any given power supply doesn't blow up or die doesn't necessary mean all of that model or brand are "good" or "bad"..

Its all about averages...

And while you may never have a problem with a power supply on the avoid list, many many others do..

Noone is making the claim that if you buy a brand on the avoid list you will regret it, or that they WILL always blow up, or they will always overheat or have power ripples, but by and large, the average quality of those power supplies are bad...

Thats also not to say power supplies that are highly praised and reccomended never have problems. Because they do, just not nearly as often as the power supplies on the avoid list.

The guide is linked in my signature and is in some sticky, somewhere..

So my 580 Watt Hiper PSU that I paid $100 for on newegg is for a low-end machine?

I would disagree with that, it has performed beautifully.
