thanks for the food for thought guys appreciate it, i may use my 550ti so i can save for a 980 or something we'll see.

on another note, i'm using a case with no optical drive slot as i never use discs anymore but my question is, how do i install the windows OS if i am using no discs on a new HDD? do i have to clone my current one? and if so, anyone know of up-to-date good cloning programs.

You can clone or you can install Windows from a flash drive.

Acronis and Macrium both come to mind. Great cloning programs.

CloneZilla ftw. Plus it's free/open source.

To get your key use this software.

ProduKey - Recover lost product key (CD-Key) of Windows/MS-Office/SQL Server
