Alright, this isn't really a new rig, just everything but the power supply and the hard drive. My budget's at around $450 and right now, I really want to just get rid of this old P4 system and get a new one:
3600+ Brisbane ($73)
A-DATA 2GB Vitesta DDR800 ($115)
Biostar TForce 550 ($80)

Now, I can't decide which video card I should get. My monitor goes to 1280x1024 and thats pretty much where I want to game without any lag. Can't decide between a 7600gt or an 8600gt..I can get the 7600 and wait until DX10 becomes the standard of PC gaming, then get a DX10 card for cheaper, rather then getting the 8600gt but what I can't find on google is that if the 8600 overclocks to GTS speeds, if it does I'll get it hands down. Any feedback?

I think you should go for the 8600GT. It's not that much more than a 7600GT.

The 7600GT is an ok card still but getting more and more outdated.

The 8600GT is slighly faster than it and can be overclocked to around the speeds of a 7900GT.

However a 7900GS can be overclocked to around the X1950PRO speeds which are faster than an 8600GTS for 30 bucks less.

At that price though..here is what I would get....and WANT BADLY

Newegg.com - Open Box: SAPPHIRE 100186L Radeon X1950XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 VIVO HDCP Video Card - OEM

too bad you would need a new PSU too for it lol

u wanna get the x1950xtx if u want the most of your money.
However if you wanna future proof your comp stick with the 8600 as the directx 10 is what you need.

Technology is pretty much at the max now, comps cant go much over than 3ghz. All they could do is make more cores. 8600 should last awhile.

Wow, I never saw that 1950 on newegg before, that's one **** of a deal right there..but yeah like darkside says I'll need a new power supply too. If I do get that though, how long will it last before Dx9 is completely gone?
Edit: Will the XClio 450BL handle the 1950xt? Because if it can I can probably fit that into my budget

The FSP 450w can run it however the 400w is a little low to handle an XT very safely.

The Xclio should be able to run it as it has 33 amps on the 12's and its recommended 30 Amps.

However I suggest the Xclio 500w as it has 36 amps on the 12's, 500w's of power which is 1% of the rails at max load (very good) and is only 49.99

If not the Xclio 450BL will handle it but you cant pack too many things in there with it either.

All of those PSu's will handle an X1950PRO though but the XT is so much more powerful...

i agree with darkside go for the 8600gt. as it is dx10 which makes it more future proof.i coulnt say much bout the ati coz i dunno much ,im a nvidia fanboy :D
