Default New Poster and builder, question or two please help

now im looking for a good way to start on a custom fast gaming pc. i know about newegg.com. and ive been looking on there but im basically blind on this whole situation, ive been wanting to do this for about 4 years, and just never had the time or money to do it until now.

basically i have a question about purchasing items on the website. could i purchase anything on there and will be compatible with something else? im not going to make it fully random, but i dont wanna buy 2 things that wont work with each other..

and im trying to spend roughly around 2000-2300$

any info would be great for a noob like me, thanks.

*edit*
