Hi all,

Just recently I had my computer crap out on me (graphics card died), and as such I'm looking at getting a new one. I've been browsing around for something to replace what I had and I've come across two that look promising.

Second: Cost before taxes $1049CAD (currently 949 due to a sale)

Processor Type Intel Core i7 4770
Processor Speed 3.4 GHz
Processor Cores 4
RAM 12GB (DDR3 1600MHz)
Hard Drive Capacity 2 TB

Pre-loaded OS Windows 8.1
Graphics Card Nvidia GTX 650

I'm not a ridiculously avid gamer, but I do play, and I want this to be able to last me for a while. My main concern is that (according to most websites) the A10 isn't as powerful as the i7, but the gt 650 gets blown out of the water by the R9. Both are still an improvement on my old rig.

So, which would be better dollar-for-dollar, and why?

If you built one you could do better for the price, On the web on my phone ATM so putting a system together would be tough but will be at my PC soon if not I'm sure someone here will do it also, On one item you won't really need the i7 4770, The i5 4670K will be the same performance without the hyper threading which many things don't use and it's $100 cheaper. As for the GTX650 and the R-9 270X neither are "great" cards, Both are decent but with the $100 saved with the i5 you can do a lot better. I'll be at my PC soon so if nobody else comes in I'll see what I can put together for parts to show you what you can do for the price.

I believe you would be better off building. You could put together a much better overall system for the money.

Suggestion:
MOBO: Asrock H81 or Equivalent(Z87 chipset is only needed if buying K version of CPU)
I5-4670(non-K unless you plan to overclock)
8gb or 16gb RAM(2*4gb or 2*8gb)
Power Supply Corsair TX650 or Seasonic 620
GPU: EVGA GTX 760
CASE of Choice(Corsair 200R is cheap and solid)
SSD for OS 120gb Samsung EVO
HDD 1TB for Storage

Not sure what site to use for pricing, but should be close.

A few things I noticed to save you a little more money would be to forget the blue ray unless you have a use for it but would save you a few $$$$ and the 2 trb HD, If you need that much and store lots of movies and music then it might be worth it but 1 trb would be plenty for most people. I also used 8 gigs of ram but faster ram than the package you posted (1600 vrs the 1333) This all comes to $889.91 and you know what parts are going in instead of them using cheaper brands that may be unreliable.

Just from my current knowledge, you don't need the I7. You would be just as fine with an I5, and you could overclock the I5 to be better than the I7. But anyway, I say go with the second, but see if you could change it to an I5, or the better option, build a PC from scratch. C: Hope I helped!

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Much appreciated!

I'm going to check out a few pc building sites and shop around for some of the stuff posted :)

I agree with this rig here except I would get the GTX 760 with the extra cash left over. The 750ti actually isn't that powerful for the type of rig being put together here.

On the other hand to clear something up, the R9 270x actually isn't a bad card. It's 7950 performance which is still damn good these days.

The 4670 is faster than the 8350 and with the Asus board combo comes out cheaper than the AMD combo.

Also, since you already purchased the CX500 instead of the previously mentioned Seasonic you're going to need the i5 anyways. The R9 270x and 8350 combo is cutting it extremely close on wattage usage as the CX500 is a budget unit and rated as a peak.
