Hey, my friend is looking to build a new gaming computer, but he doesnt know much about what is good or not, so he asked me. So far i have told him to go with a e6850 dual core, 2gb of crucial ballistix, 7200.11Hd and a 8800gt 512mb. First of all, will this be good for doing medium level games such as WoW and some of the RTS's coming out this year. He has about 1k ~ 1.3k to work with, can you guys suggest a good build.

A machine of that quality would be far above 'medium' games. It would completely destroy WoW...

That would be a pretty top end machine, without doing the quad video card crap.

Also, if I remember right... the E6850 isn't the best choice for that amount of money.

Looks good though.

q6600 280
gigabyte ds3r 140
2gigs of ballistix 60
seagate 320gig 80
8800gt 512 250
thats 810 (could be wrong did in head) and you still need a psu and dvd drives and such

Q6600 is same price as E6850, and on future games that are written for quad cores, will be much more effective. If you want to go with a dual core, save ~$90 and get the E6750

I had to laugh at the wow comment :p I was playing wow on my 1gb p4 2.4ghz and 128MB AGP card 2 years ago :p

lol beat this: my comp broke last year, i managed to play wow ona p3 .8ghz pc with 124mb of 133ram. with intergrated graphics, and still ran about 10fps

I was playing WoW on my 512MB DDR PC2100, 1.42Ghz Athlon XP 1700+, 64MB GeForce2 MX420 last year. hahhaa, it wouldn't start the CoD4 demo though, that's when I knew I had to build something.:freak:
