Hey everyone,
I tried to finish this build about 6 months ago and about mid way through I had to drop a good amount of cash on some other things so it kind of got pushed aside.
That being said I've been looking at new parts. Seeing as now the 400's are out and looking to be doing really nice.
Price wise I'm not wanting to spend over 2,500$. Give or take.
I have a Antec 1200, Which I spent a good amount of time modding to what I needed / wanted.
Since the 920's aren't being sold anymore I have selected the 930. I DO plan on over clocking "some". I'm not trying to reach some huge over clock. Maybe a steady 3.5. But my question is, Is the 930 just as good as what the 920 was with over clocking?
My next question is. I've planned on getting another 480, As I have one now ordered. So would having two be worth it price wise / performance wise? Or will my cpu bottleneck me in anyway? Though I wouldn't think it would.
I also plan on getting a bigger monitor down the line.
PSU wise. I've always used Thermaltakes, I have a 750 watt and a 850 watt and was looking at the 1200 watt model given my option to running two 480's, Which would prolly use a good 800 or watts combined with a oc on the cpu. Now would the AX1200 be a better choice? Roughly 80$ difference in the two. But I have always loved my Thermaltakes.
As for a HSF, I really have liked the H50 from Corsair. I don't plan on going full water coolling, But I've heard that the H50 will compare to a fairly decent hsf on the market. Which should hold a 3.5 oc? An no I'm not lapping my cpu and another hsf. So that's just plain out.
Anyway them was my questions and here is the list of the build below. Thanks for your opinions and time!
CPU - i7 930
( Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601930 )
HSF - Corsair H50
( Newegg.com - CORSAIR Cooling Hydro Series CWCH50-1 120mm High Performance CPU Cooler )
MotherBoard - eVGA X59 (Opinions? I had this picked out months back. Is there a better choice?)
( Newegg.com - EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard )
Ram - Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 (Is 8 gig's more less the standard now? Or will 6 gigs be more then enough? Or maybe a better choice of ram? I've always used Corsair)
( Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX6GX3M3C1600C7 )
GPU - eVGA GTX 480 x2 (I've never liked over clocking my GPU's for some reason. )
( Newegg.com - EVGA 015-P3-1482-AR GeForce GTX 480 (Fermi) SuperClocked 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card )
PSU - ThermalTake 1200
( Newegg.com - Thermaltake Toughpower W0133RU 1200W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply GeForce GTX 480 Certified )
Hard Drive(s) - OCZ Agility Series (SSD drives have been coming more price friendly. This one is a 60 gig. I only want my Window's on it of course. Good choice or better?)
( Newegg.com - OCZ Agility Series OCZSSD2-1AGT60G 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) )
An a WD 1T hard drive for storage. I seen not long ago they came out with a 600 gig Raptor. I've used two 150 gig raptors in my last couple builds. Is the price worth it?
( Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive )
Sound Card - X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series (Already have this as well.)
( Newegg.com - Creative PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series Sound Card )
And window's 7 of course.
Thanks for everyone's time and opinions!
