I just joined this forum i am looking to get into the computer building hobby and build my first gaming/media machine if you can help me with any advice at all it would be greatly appreciated.

Specs:
atleast a 2.5+ ghz cpu
atleast 4+gigs of RAM
atleast 500G+ HDD
HD compatible Graphix
running window vista
42in plasma screen tv / monitor (already own this )

if you can help me find products that you recommend or use i would appreciate it thanks agian ohh yea budget is about 700-800

my fav games to play include half life COD4-2 and 1 WoW WC3 and soon i plan on playing Sarcraft..

this computer will be able to play any of the older games at max settings, and the more demanding games like crysis at Medium settings very respectably. needless to say, it would PWN COD4 and WOW, while laughing.

Also, you said a " a processor that is at least 2.5 ghz ". this is a budget build, with budget builds what you want to do is get bang for your buck parts and overclock them to the same specs or better then their more expensive counter parts. for example i listed a Phenom II X4 955 processor, that processor is only $153, but you can overclock it to match or even beat the performance of the phenom II 970 which is a $185 processor. they are the SAME processors basically, just different clock speeds. so overclock the 955, and you will get the same performance as the 970, for less money ;)

same thing with the graphics card i listed the cyclone 460, it is a $235 graphics card, if you overclock it, you can get it within spitting distance of the stock performance of a GTX 480, which is a $500 card. spending less, and overclocking is the name of the game for budget builds... actually its the name of the game of this entire hobby, squeezing every last drop of performance that you can out of your hardware.
