Default new forceware driver crashes/ possible xp reinstall

So this happened before, I install new forcewaredrivers and my **** crashes every time I open windows media player no idea why. If I go back to the old driver its fine. Anyway, I think Iam goingto do a fresh windows install, but there was in issue last time. I was installing drivers and when I found th one for either my cd rom or my dvd-r it said there could be a problem and I had to make a boot disk so I did when I ran the boot disk it said my drive didn't apply, but since I did that the comp loads slow as ****. Any idea about that. obviously I wont do that again. But heres a question what components need drivers I know the mobo, and the video card, and the dvd-r do hard drives need drivers??
