Okay its incredibly simple.

building my new rig, please help
Get everything in that list.

You want 2 of these: MSI NX8800GTS-T2D512E GeForce 8800GTS

And if you want you can save a little money and get this power supply instead of the 750 watt one.
Newegg.com - PC Power & Cooling S610EPS EPS12V 610W Continuous @ 40°C Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, cUL, CE, CB, TUV - Retail

Now if everyone else could just stop debating over what the best cpu cooler is, it would probably help to not confuse the op.

Two GPUs, one card: A review of the ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2: Page 2

As seen in this review SLI'd 8800gt's beat out the 3870x2, therefore the gts's will beat it by an even larger margin. He probably could give a **** less about the 2 fps diff or w/e it is, but the more we debate the more confused he's gonna get.

forget the HD3870X2

I think Aspire is right on this one 2 8800gts > 1 HD3870X2, it seems the same would go with 9600gt's

If you have the spare money, what about a xfx 780i or evga 780i instead of the 750?

also you need a 64bit OS to recognize all 4gb of RAM (which Aspire has already mentioned)
