Your all geniuses, so without further adodo...

Intel® Core™ i7 960 Processor

EVGA X58 SLI Classified X58

Corsair Dominator 6GB

ATI 5870 1GB

Corsair 850W PSU

CoolerMaster V8 fan on the CPU

OS: Win 7

case is a thermaltake armor or something ... full tower... expensive as **** but i already have it so it's cost isn't a problem.

Not worried about the money, unlike the rest of America, I don't have any debt... until now :) Plus my birthday is near Christmas so i get a double whammy there

Most interested in what parts you might switch out for about the same or lesser dollar value without sacrificing performance .

I buy mostly from newegg and i'll be building this over the next few months, hope to have it running Jan. next year so i can wait for parts and such with no hurry.

I have $1000 saved so far, with a about $300 from b-day and x-mas cash coming in. the rest is going on the credit card so i am flexible with how much i can spend upto about $2500. No need for monitors, mice, sound or any of that.

My main concern is future proofing. I hear the X58 can use the i9 cpu so i think i am good there. The i7960 is a new release so i am not to sure if its the best buy...

RAM i should be ok with ... can always go upto 12GB if needed.

With the EVGA X58 SLI Classified X58 MOBO and a CoolerMaster V8 on the cpu ... Crossfire shouldn'y be a problem to do in a year or two right?

Thats all i got for now... My next 3 years of gaming and work now rest in your hands :)

Do not get an i7 960. It's a complete waste of money. Get a 920.

The classified is a good choice, but if you don't plan to do some extreme OC'ing get the E758. The classified is only if you plan to do some serious OC'ing. Newegg.com - EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Don't get the dominators. If you wanna spend that much on RAM get these. Newegg.com - G.SKILL Trident 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD - Desktop Memory

Or this RAM if you wanna save a little more $ Newegg.com - OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK - Desktop Memory

Crossfire will not be a problem in the future with this setup.

Get this heatsink. Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Rev C. CPU Heatsink - (Socket LGA 1366 / LGA 1156** / 775 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / Xeon**) - FrozenCPU.com

Edit @ ste: He should get the 850W PSU, he plans to XFire later.

I wouldn't go GTX295. Stick with a 5870. More than likely as its drivers mature it will overtake the 295.

As far as the CPU, I would just go with the 920. Much cheaper and you won't really see any difference in performance, especially if you overclock.

What speed RAM were you thinking? With your budget you could go 2000mhz. Corsair Dominators are great, but a little on the expensive side. I would go with these G-Skills:
Newegg.com - G.SKILL Trident 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD - Desktop Memory

Everything else looks good. The Classified is a great mobo, but unless you plan on some pretty extreme overclocking you can just go with the regular EVGA x58 SLI.

edit: nubbleet beat me :p

^^ Rather pointless to buy a gtx 295 now. It only beats the 5870 in some cases and thats because there 5870's drivers aren't up to par yet. The 295 is also a dual GPU card, and its dx 10, whereas the 5870 is a single GPU Dx11 card. So 5870 all the way.

Also I'd recommend the i7 920. Half the price of the 960 and its pretty much the same chip. With that V8 you can overclock it just as well. Only reason for buying the extremely expensive i7s is for some extreme overclocking, putting them under LN2.

Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Corsair makes solid PSU, good choice.

But Corsair RAM is a little overpriced IMO. Sure you get an extremely good product, but you wouldn't notice the difference between those and maybe some OCZ golds or platinum's.

Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P1600LV6GK - Desktop Memory

Then you probably don't need a Classified board, they're really only worth it if you plan on doing some major overclocking or tweaking. The P6T deluxe uses the X58 chipset and is a great board from what I've read/heard. Newegg.com - ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Or the EVGA 1366 board seems to be popular too: Newegg.com - EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Edit: Ninja'd like 3 times... :(

if he was gonna get that mobo, it would probably be better to get dual channel ram instead.

either way though, if you have some money to spend, go with the asus or evga mobos that have been suggested above. i also agree to stick with the 5870.

Here's what I'd recommend.

Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

The 5870s are out of stock everywhere but it sounds like you're not planning on building this monster for a while so you should be alright. Then again, the new Nvidia cards may be out when you start ordering parts so you might want to check back here then. Anyway, with this build you still have enough for crossfired 5870s if you want. You could also change that motherboard if your not gonna do some serious overclocking.

This comes out to $1130.93, plus $800 for crossfired 5870s is $1930. with only one it's roughly $1530.

This will be a monster, good luck!
