New build, suggestions wanted

Making a new build and any suggestions would be welcome...

Now the there are a few thing that I am sure of and will not change my mind over, it will have:

Asus Mobo
Intel P4
Coolermaster Case
(2) 500GB Sata II 3GBs (will make total of 4 later)
2GB of ram DDR2 800 (will make total of 4 later)


Prices might be a little lower by this time, it was in the planning about about a month ago, but I need to get this thing done within a month maybe at the latest a month and a half.

COOLING????
Water cooling, but I will be using one for the cpu and one for the vga chip. Preferbally 2 of the same brand and type of cooler would be nice. Reason being is that I want to sit 2 of these (all in one coolers) units side by side facing towards the left panel of the PC. I will have probally have to change the fan airflow direction, most of them blow in thru the back and out thru the front. I want to mount them so the air will flow out of the back of the unit, which will end up being out the right side of the machine.

Of course there is always an exception and that one is the big long one that sits on top.

Was thinking of one of these solutions and really need help choosing:

I have alot of extra fans from 60mm up to 120's, connectors, and all sorts of jubj in my PC spare parts box, I also have the IDE optical drives that I will be using. and the XP home SP2

When Vista finally/ever comes out this machine will be a duel boot machine.

K first off you do not need 4 gbs right now, maybe later when vista comes out, but XP doesnt utilize 4 gbs.

So just get G.Skill 2x1GB DUal Channel Ram

As for Motherboard, DO NOT GET THAT ONE!

Get this one, DFI Lanparty UT SLi-DR, or Ultra-D if u dont want SLi

And Hard Drive. I suggest getting 1x500GB WD Caviar for Storage
and 1x74GB WD Raptor for System programs and games and stuff for faster booting

Processor, do not get intel, plz, anyone here will tell u that an AMD woops Intel.....for now......WHOA! i just saw the price, ur willing to spend 1k on that cpu. k then this is what you want. AMD X2 4800+, will kill the intel no problem, and if u want to overclock it will be even better. But if ur still willing to spend 1k on a CPU get the AMD FX-60.

I'm pretty sure that Pentium EE would beat that 4800+, but I'm not sure. I know the FX-60 beats a Pentium EE though.

So yeah, change the CPU to a FX-60, and that DFI board. If you wanna save some cash though, don't get a Raptor. You onlt benefit about 5-10 seconds on load times for like, three times the price you pay for a normal hard drive.

Thought I mentioned that I was going to get 2 GB now and 2 HD now, and then get 4 and 4 when I have this mahcine with duel Op systems (WinXP, and Vista)

Ok thank you for you suggstion on the MoBo, but that oen is missing a few things which I feel I need. One is that I need a min. of 3 PCi slots, one for internal USB connections to use the 6USB jacks up front.

Also noticed that the firewire is in the back as well and did not notice one on the Mobo itself. I do not think that I want to run 6 usb connections from the back of the machine and a firewire to make it so I can hook up my devices when I want them.

I think SLI refer's to using Nvidia video cards, if so No I do not like or use Nvidia cards.

I think that I might be open to the suggestion of using a AMD instead of a P4. Al3ways wanted to make one but just fell back on the old reliable (at least to me) Pentium.

k SLi doesnt mean its strictly nVIdia. it means that you can have two of the same Nvidia cards and get like 20% boost in performance. If it says SLi u can still use ATI Cards on it.

I guess if ur not overclocking then the Asus Mobo is alright. If ur going to dual boot, and u want a fast computer, then i stand strong at getting a Raptor as well.

I second the x2 4800+/FX-60. The ASUS A8232-SLI Deluxe is a very good motherboard as well, and yes the x1900xtx will work with it.

You should probably go with the X2 4800+, and just oc it 200mhz, and buy a very nice soundcard.

The motherboard you showed looked pretty good, but only get it if
you're going to get 2 x1900xtx's.

i see no point in getting 2 x1900xtxs because the mobos that do support crossfire sux balls. get the fx-60 if u got the money and get the x1900xtx, and either the asus or the DFI LP UT Ultra-D, i strongly suggest the DFI over th Asus

Yes its a given to get the DFI LP when you want to OC. Tons of bio Options, awsome board.

why are you so confident in that board when you dont even own it......

I highley suggest getting the fx-60, ATI or sappahire X1900XT and 2 GB of some reliable ram such as OCZ, Corsair, Crucial, and G.SKILL in no particular order.

Ridilyn is right...the ASUS A8232 SLI-DELUX is a awsome Motherboard
