i just found out that i get $500 for a computer on my birthday, i can get a pretty nice build right? any suggestions

Hmmm, $500 will buy you about half of a good computer, (before everyone starts posting how you can get 'good' computers for $600 let me clarify...) by 'good' I mean an actual high-end pc.

Here's a few prices for you to think about
Graphics Card: ~$200
CPU: ~$180
MOBO: ~$130
PSU: ~$110
HDD(s): ~$90
Optical Drive: ~$30
RAM: ~$120
Monitor: ~$150
Case: ~$80

What are you planning to use your new pc for? Gaming? Work? Browsing the interwebs? Post up what you need and someone will put together the cheapest build they can for what you want

the computer will be for everything, and i just want the best performance i can with games and everything.

In that case you'll need more than $500
I suggest saving that and trying to get a little more moolah together. There's no sense buying something with $500 that'll be obsolete in a few months, save up until you have at least $900 and post back :)

Honestly, with $500 you won't be able to build what you want. Sorry.

$900 will be perfect if you still need a monitor. If you don't, we can go down to like $700 and manage it. This is also assuming you don't need an OS.
