Not knowing what PSU/GPU you bought, I put together these two builds:

BUILD 1

Motherboard: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards - $134.99

CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops - $214.99

RAM: Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory - $54.99

Case: Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases - $58.95

Monitor: Newegg.com - SAMSUNG ToC T240HD Rose-Black 24" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1 Built in DTV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Speakers - LCD Monitors - $299.99

TOTAL: $763.91

BUILD 2

Motherboard: Newegg.com - ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards - $239.99

CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops - $279.99

RAM: Newegg.com - G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory - $94.99

Case: Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases - $58.95

Monitor: Newegg.com - SAMSUNG ToC T240HD Rose-Black 24" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1 Built in DTV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Speakers - LCD Monitors - $299.99

TOTAL: $973.91

You could grab a cheaper monitor, like this one, to lower the cost of the second build a bit.

Also, the second build would need a 64-bit operating system, otherwise you're wasting quite a bit of RAM. If you don't want to use a 64-bit operating system, I would get 3x1GB of RAM instead.

If you plan to SLi then I would recommend the second build. The X58 chipset supports both SLi and Crossfire. But, you can't SLi on the motherboard I picked for the first build. That only supports Crossfire. To SLi on that platform you'd need a board with an nForce chipset...but that is a horrible chipset, the P45 is much better.
