Default Network file share/store (NAS)

I've decided to build my own and put FreeNAS on it. But I'm wondering what's best hardware-wise. I think I've got two main options:

1. Motherboard with 6x SATAII connectors and RAID 1 support
2. PCI (or PCIe) card such as this on a normal mobo

Any extra ideas? Which is better?
