Um... first of all... tell us the hardware that's in your computer?
Not sure what you posted... But I don't think it's really all that relevant...

Aha, there, nvm I see enough to cast some judgment...
Pentium 4's are old as the hills.
You'll probably be best off starting from scratch... But that depends...
What is UDK?

And... Tell us what your budget is.

Well UDK is the free version of the unreal engine, for designing. I will be designing and coding. The budget is negotiable because its going to be over sometime. im hoping to slowly get there while i can still use my computer. And starting from scratch isnt really an option.

Well if all you're going to be doing is designing and coding you're not going to need that much. I'd say you could do it with a budget of $600, even including the monitor.

What kind of budget were you looking at? Do you need a new Monitor, Case, Speakers, or Operating System included in the build?

CPU, Motherboard, RAM... (Prices vary, but were pulled from www.newegg.com)
Athlon II x2 240 - $58~
Asus 780L motherboard -$65~
2Gb of DDR3 RAM - $50~
Total: $170~

(Try to get 1333Mhz or 1600Mhz from any company that isn't Kingston or a no-name RAM company. A-Data, G. Skill, GEIL, Corsair, Crucial, Mushkin are all pretty good.)

(Throw on another $45-50 for an additional 2Gb stick of DDR3 RAM)

You could probably use the same hard drive, optical drive, possibly case? but that's an if/maybe if that case can mount a Micro ATX motherboard
Anywayz, if you know what you're doing, a case isn't 100% essential right away, you can run a computer without a case for a while.

You can get a 585w HEC PSU for only $30 if your PSU isn't strong enough to run those new parts. (It should be, they don't have very high power draw tbqh)

If you want to go even cheaper... You could...
Get a Sempron 140 CPU for only $30~ instead of the Athlon II X2, but the Sempron is a single core CPU, the Athlon II X2 240 is a dual core CPU
You'd see a vast improvement over that Pentium 4 with either of those processors to be honest though.
The Sempron 140 is possibly the best single core CPU you can get your hands on. Price/performance considered
The Athlon II X2 240 is one of the best dual core CPU's all things considered.

not because of your OS. a 32-bit OS can recognize up to around 3.5gigs.

it's because of your motherboard, it is limited to a max of 2gigs of ram.

it's not really an option because you can't interchange ram like that.

with your current parts you HAVE to use ddr ram.

but i agree that it would be better to just get a whole new build.

The only way you're going to get a GOOD noticeable improvement over your current build is if you ditch the CPU/motherboard/RAM and upgrade them ALL.

Those parts are not very upgradeable.
They died out like 5 years ago when Core Duos and Core 2 Duos were emerging.
The mainstream computer market has moved to DDR3 RAM, Dual, Triple, Quad, and even Six Core processors, and much faster FSB speeds.

Wouldnt i just be able to get the cpu and motherboard you were talking about, but instead of the 2gb ddr3 ram get ddr ram to match the one i already bought.
