OK, so I am a computer geek, but I haven't been keeping up on the latest stuff recently. I'm not looking for the best of the best, but I priced out a nice machine online and I wanted some advice. Mainly I'd like to know if the power supply I'm looking at is too much, and if the heatsink is good enough for the processor.

Here's the list:

2x - XFX GeForce 7600 GT Fatal1ty Edition / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Passive Heatpipe $179 each

OCZ Game X Stream / 850 Watt / ATX / 120mm fan / SATA-Ready / SLI Ready / Active PFC Power Supply $199

Asus A8N-32-SLI-Delux Nvidia Socket 939 ATX Motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 2.6GHz OEM Processor $449 for the combo

2x - PNY 1024MB PC3200 400MHz Memory $95 each

Thermaltake / Beetle 4 in 1 / Socket a/478/775/754/939/ Copper / Heatpipe / CPU Cooling Fan $45

So what do you all think of this setup. With a case and some extra 80mm fans it just about $1200 total.

athlon FX-60 is a waste of money go intel and get the core 2 duo E6600, also 2 7600GT`s in sli isnt worth it one 7900GT can do better ,you could even get the 8800GTS.

Going intel would also meaning changing motherboards and ram.

for that amount of money you could get a **** of alot better system

intel core 2 e6300 - 180
Asus p5b Deluxe - 150
2GB DDR@ 800 Gskills - 190
Antec True Power 550watt - 100
Nvidia 8800GTS - around 400
a good airflow case you like (coolermaster and thermaltake are popular and good)

What you'll be looking for:

Motherboard: Intel 965, 975 or 650i/680i chipset (I recommend them in that order from best to worst)
Processor: any Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Extreme
Memory: DDR2 RAM with a minimum of 533mhz speed
Video cards: 7900gs, 7950gt, 8800gts/gtx (Nvidia) or x1950pro (ATI)
Power supply: around 400-500w or 500-600w with 2x6pin pci-e connectors if you're going with an 8800 videocard

Take a look at some of the members signatures with their rigs in it. Most rigs that have an E6x00 processor are quite good and well priced.

Thanks for the replies guys, here's something new I just priced out. It is a bit cheaper than the original one I posted. My only question now.....if the rest of it is a good deal....is what heat sink to get. The thermaltake one I have listed here says it will work with socket 775 chips, but it doesn't specifically say core duo chips. So I'm wonder if this one will work, or if I should get another one.

Here's the revised list:

GeFoced 7900 GTO / 512MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / RoHS Video Card - $250

2x1GB PNY DDR2 PC5400 667MHz Memory - $232

Asus P5NSLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard w/ Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz OEM Processor - $335

Thermaltake / Beetle 4 in 1 / Socket a/478/775/754/939/ Copper / Heatpipe / CPU Cooling Fan $45
