Default Need opinion before I buy/build.

Before I buy I知 looking for opinion on what else I should consider (for basically the same price rage).

Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM $49.99
MSI R4850-512M OC Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card $106.99
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM $6.99

Combo deal1
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit for System Builders - OEM
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
-$60.00 for Combo
So $229.98

Combo deal2
Thermaltake Purepower W0121RU 600W ATX12V V2.0 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply - Retail
Thermaltake M9 VI1000BWS Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
-$20.00 for Combo
So $124.98
+$15.00 Mail-in Rebate

Combo deal3
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor Model HDZ940XCGIBOX - Retail
Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PVS24G8500ELKN - Retail
(I値l probably just get OCZ ram instead haven't looked up Patriot idk if it's any good)
-$5.00 Combo
$253.98
+$25.00 Mail-in Rebate

Subtotal: $772.91 - $40mir = 732.91
(I値l probably get an aftermarket CPU heatsink aswell)

Definitely change the hard drive. 8mb of cache no way.

go for 32mb of cache and 640gb of $25 more.
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

get this ram instead.
Newegg.com - G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

I would take this psu over a thermaltake any day of the week.
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies

There's a few changes I recommend.

First off, I second that choices that Hefe mentioned.

Second, here are my recommended changes.

Get this board and CPU combo, you will save a lot more money, and it's a great board: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

I personally would pick out a different case, you could get something much nicer than that for about the same cost or less. Matter of personal preference, but something from Antec or NZXT would be nice. Take a look at what they have to offer.

Also, for an aftermarket HSF, grab the core contact. Newegg.com - Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2 - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

Agree with the hdd/ram but that board/CPU combo won't save me more. The Mb/vista combo is -60 compared to that cpu/mb's -40 and I'm kinda a GIGABYTE mb fan.

I don't care how the case looks just wanted (somewhat) good airflow (and room) and whats wrong with Thermaltake ps? I though that brand was a fairly good one but I'll consider the CORSAIR.

/edit ok how about this build?

Western Digital RE3 WD2502ABYS-01B7A0 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM (went from 8mb cache 16mb do I really need a 32?) $69.99

MSI R4830-T2D1G Radeon HD 4830 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail $110.00

G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B - Retail $59.99

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 Upgrade - Retail $88.99
(downgraded to basic)

Combo1 (went for the cpu/mb combo instead of vista ult/mb)
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor Model HDZ940XCGIBOX - Retail
BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX 128M AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
$25.00 Instant
-$40.00 Combo
$10.00 Mail-in Rebate
$259.98

Combo deal2
Thermaltake Purepower W0121RU 600W ATX12V V2.0 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply - Retail
Thermaltake M9 VI1000BWS Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
-$20.00 for Combo
So $124.98
+$15.00 Mail-in Rebate
$124.98

Subtotal: $733.92 - 65mir = 668.92

The hard drive I quoted is $5 more than the one you have for an extra 16mb of cache and 640gb vs 250gb.
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives
No brainer.

I've never really used Vista, but I hear you should always buy Home Premium, not Basic.

The combo would save you money, because Vista Ultimate is 180 bucks...minus 60 bucks, it's still more expensive than Home Premium by 20 bucks.

So some math: With your mobo/os and RAM/CPU combos, that total comes to 484 bucks. My CPU/mobo combo plus the cost of the PI Blacks and Vista HP 64bit costs 420 bucks (not including the 10 bucks you save in the MIR). You'll be getting much MUCH better RAM out of the deal as well.

But if you are DEAD set on that Gigabyte board, for an extra 20 bucks, you can bundle it with the x4 940 here: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

You'll nix the MIR and it's a $30 combo instead. Like I said, if you are dead set. But that Biostar board is amazing. I would know, I own it.

My first thermaltake toughpower 700 w died on me after about a year. I would've bought a new PC Power & Cooling PSU but I didn't have the money so I'm stuck with another Toughpower that they gave me. Go with the corsair, it is a much better brand

Also, don't get home basic. If you want to save money, you could just get Windows 7 RC free and run that. Know that it will expire June 2010 so you will have to buy it then. It will save you upfront money so you can buy better parts now. Windows 7 is very stable, its almost ready for launch with this version so you don't have anything to worry about. I'm running it now and haven't had a single problem with any games or programs.
