What is your budget for a vid. card? Because the best one out right now is the X1900XTX.

SAPPHIRE Radeon X1900XTX 100150 Video Card - OEM

And as processor goes, get X2, its dual-core it's "future-proof".

get the 3700+. By the time you need a dual core, they're going to be waaay cheaper. It's a bad investment IMO. I wouldn't upgrade till the applications begin to utilze dual cores.

is a x800 better or a 6600 and also, is eVGA Geforce 6800 256MB for 279 a good deal or eVGA Geforce 6800GS 256MB for 229

EDIT: MY budget is now 1000-1200 if that helps

the best card you listed there would be the 6800GS. The 6800GT and 6800Ultra are way too expensive. The ATI x8xx series blows. The 6800GS is what you want... I'm still having trouble deciding whether I'll buy a 6800GS or a 7800GT this summer.
