Lightbulb Need Help with MOBOS/Case/RAM/etc... just beginning... initial setup....

This is gonna be my first build so I'm a bit confused. What is South Bridge, I'm looking at 2 types of MOBOS that have Nvidia southbridge and an intel southbridge...?

CPU: i will NOT be OverClocking... e6300 or e6600
edit: OMG i didn't know price diff was that much... so e6300 i guess...

MOBO in mind:
Does anyone recommend something else? This has the southbridge Nvidia (whatever that is....).

This one looks better.

Does PCI express x1 cards work if you put them into the PCI express x16 slot? or are the slots different in size??

I am NOT planning to Crossfire or SLI. So am I looking at the correct MOBOs for my needs? I want to be able to play recent games at decent FPS (FEAR,HL2,DOOM3,etc). My MAX budget is around $1500. I'm going to use this for everyday use a lot too.

RAM:.. what is good for "Timing" and "Cas Latency"
I'll get these...

Power Supply:
Is this any good??

GPU: I am trying to get something like a Nvidia 7900gs/Nvidia 7950gt.. but which brand should i get? I see xfx, asus, foxcomm, etc.

Case: any suggestions?? Nothing flashy... needs to look good but does NOT need those flashy neon lights or clear see thru casing..

DVD/CD Drives: probably sony or something... do I need cd AND dvd?? Can't I just use a dvd drive for everything? or is that bad for the dvd drive (over working it?)

HardDrive: what is best brand for performance? western digital? the 500gb samsung for $149 is tempting....

Monitor: what is good for FPS gaming..??
This any good??

WOW, total is $1770... about $270 above my budget... Anyone have any suggestions to meet my budget??

edit: maybe the mobo is better than what i actually need??

Use my advice at your own risk.

My rig:
CoolerMaster Centurion 5
SamSung 20" LCD
Intel E6750 @ 2.66Ghz
Gigabyte p35-ds3r
Patriot Extreme 2gb 4-4-4-12
Sapphire X1950XT 256mb
Samsung 500gb @ 7200
PSU Xclio GreatPower 550W
Samsung DVD Burner
Logitec X-230 2.1
