need help on buying a new comp...

So for christmas my parents are giving me around 600-800 to buy a new desktop... i have the monitor and accesories. And i have a pretty decent graphics card which i think i will bring over into my new comp... its a Radeon 8500 series 128mb. At least i think its good enough that i should have to buy a new video card. And i like my sound card. So what i need to know is should i try to buy a premade dell or ibm and just switch these things or would it be cheaper to make my own system buy buying parts seperatly and putting em in. I dont know where to start. ANy help or tips or anything would be much appreciated....

Whats this gonna be for? Im assuming gaming. If you can raise your budget like 200-300 dollars, then you can get a pretty nice computer.

yeah, the main reason i feel like i need to upgrade it is so i can play BF2 lag free
