You don't need to buy Vista, you can just download the Windows 7 RC if you like. It's free for a year. :P

Here's a good build for you.

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!
Newegg.com - Acer X223Wbd Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 2500:1 - LCD Monitors
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

Total comes to $704.48 after shipping, then you get 10 bucks back in an MIR.

If you want a better video card, you could grab a 4870 1gb, but it will set you back another 50 bucks or so.

Ah, I read the w/o monitor part wrong, lol. Sorry.

You can grab the 4870 like Hef said, or you can get something nicer, depending on your resolution.

Ah, my bad, lol.

Yeah, that should work just fine, whether it's IDE or SATA.

What size monitor do you have? And what games do you want to play?

i don't have the monitor but my mom just got home and said she'd probably just buy that monitor unless we can find one cheaper ( bargain hunter mom. i wanted to play starcraft 2 and diablo 3. when it came out. but i don't play any games on my computer right now since it sucks hard. i used to play steam games. half life 2 was the last game i played. but i play COD on my 360 and BF:BC and planned on switching over to comp when i got a new one.
