My budget is around 2300. The main purpose of this rig is for gaming/media..

I've decided to build around the AMD 64 x2 4400

Would like to try overclocking with this rig.

CPU - AMD 64 x2 4400

M/B - DFI ?

RAM - 2gig OCZ/Corsair?

Graphics - 7800gtx - which brand? (also is there a difference between factory overclocked versions to a overclocked version at home?)

HDD - Thinking about raptors? sata II ?

Sound - Audigy 2 ZS

Optical Drive - Pioneer DVR-110d

Case - p180

PSU - Antec TP 2.0 550w

Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse not required.

Also which cooling options should I go for? (like to keep the system quiet as possible)

Cheers,

CPU-Will you be using it for multi-tasking? Because that is what the X2 is made for. If its for raw gaming then the FX's will suit you better.
MoBo-Anything thats compadible with the rest of the stuff. PCIe is a must.
RAM-Good.
Graphics-Go for Gigabyte or LeadTec, make sure its PCIe
HDD-Raptors are good as a system drive, otherwise they are mainly used for enterprise.
Sound-All good.
Optical Drive-Make sure its fast and can write all popular formats.
Case-Fine. If you want less noise go for the Antec Sonata.
PSU-More than good.

To keep the system quiet look for the Antec stuff. The Sonata case is VERY quiet, and their fans are good too. When it comes to fans get a 120mm for better cooling.

DFI nF4 ultra-D
X2 processor is good, dont listen to the guy above me
eVGA leadtek gigabyte BFG MSI are goood brands
hdd you can buy a raptor for the OS then get a nice big seagate for storage
psu is good
the P180 was meant to be sound proof, the antec sonata isnt that great.
you could buy some silent fans. or go for water cooling ;)
ram go for OCZ
