Don't mess with single cores anymore, I say cut down to a cheaper version of RAM and get a gig. That's what I had to do, I still only have 1 Gig which i've had since christmas. Although my RAM just went down 15 bucks to 99.99 so i'm about to purchase another stick. A C2D @ 3.2ghz, a 7900GS at 615/835 and 1 Gig of RAM lets me play oblivion at high with not much lag at all. I can bet you once I get another I will be even better. Trust me though if you need to cut money just cut down one gig Like I did and get another later. Also as stated you dont need 600w's.

words of wisdom indeed... lol

stay clear of any single core... aps should be turning to multi-threaded soon with pretty much ALL prebuilds becoming dual cores

Asus GTX1080 Strix | Corsair H100i V2 | Corsair 750D | Corsair RM850X

Get dual core. 2gb ram if you can, if not then I guess you could get by on a 1gb stick and upgrade when you have more money. To shave off a few bucks, you could drop the ram down to DDR2-667 or DDR2-533. Unless you're overclocking, I doubt you'd notice a difference.

Like brinks said, that motherboard is the wrong socket type for that CPU. It's a 939, CPU's AM2. I'd stick with AM2. Heard this is a good budget AM2 board, but I have no experience with it.

You can get a better case for less since it looks like that one has an included psu (which probably sucks) and you're buying a separate PSU anyway. The CM Centurion 5 is a little cheaper, but not as flashy. I guess it depends on if you prefer the cheesy look

If you want to save a few bucks, this psu might be good enough for your system since nothing looks THAT power hungry. But then again, a bigger psu will give you more upgradeability, so it's up to you.

could also drop down to a x2 3800+ instead of the x2 4200+

mobo: abit kn9 ultra.
i can vouch for mine, and it's 75 bucks.
stick with the ddr2 800 and stick with 2gb.
you can also drop the 4200 for a 3800, it will overclock to the same speed as a 4200 stock with no voltage increase (i.e. no aftermarket cooling).
get a smaller hard drive. 80 or 160 is plenty you can always pick up another one later. it will take you awhile to fill one of those anyway.
get a smaller psu.
screw vista, i'm keepin xp till my 'puter blows up.
maybe a cheaper case that has good airflow. i have a 50 dollar rosewill that ventilates like crazy.
all that should shave a couple hundred off for ya.
