Default need comparison help

I'll keep it short , I need to know more about the new Intel prosessor Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, or E6400,

Not long ago I bought an Asus PD5LD2 which can reach 1066 FSB
I put in a Pentium 4 631 which is working just fine.

I wonder what will happen if I put in a Core 2 Duo E6400, which to me little knowledge about porsessors seems to indicate to have a slower clock speed (or doesn;t it) 2.13Ghz compared to the Pentium 631 3.0Ghz, or will in fact the E6400 be faster on this motherboard?

Or how about the New Pentium D Pressler 945 which indicates to have 3.4Ghz... !!! Now I'm totally confused, I must have missed some new. Do the new Intel Core 2 Duo's CPU core at individual clocks and the older Pentium D 945 as a total clock, please enlighten

I have 1 GB RAM PC5400 and Ati X1600Pro for video ,

Please advise thank you

Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0 E (478 socket)
Radeon 7500 64mb (I know ... (^_^)
when i get around to it)
Samsung PC3200 512mb x 2 (DUAL SOCKET)

The new conroes (e6600, e6400....) are the fastest chips out right now. An E6300 running at 1.86 GHz will even kill a Preseler at 4.0 GHz. Get the e6600 or the E6400 and overclock it.
